The Boardwalk Mall features a mix of retail outlets, including two supermarkets, a speciality food store, and two pharmacies. It has four entry and exit points, with two being on Marine Drive and two on 2nd Avenue. The precinct is accessible via a network of roads, including Marine Drive, Strandfontein Road, 2nd Avenue, and La Roche Drive. It was developed as an extension to the Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World’s retail area within the precinct. The Boardwalk Mall is located at the Boardwalk precinct in Port Elizabeth, which is part of the municipality of Nelson Mandela Bay. The development procured goods and services worth a total of R290m ($21m), thereby contributing to the local economy. The project generated up to 2,000 jobs in its construction phase and was expected to create 1,500 permanent positions upon completion. The mall was officially opened in September 2022, marking the completion of the second phase. The first phase of development was completed in May 2021. Construction of the Boardwalk mall began in May 2021. The new mall was built in two phases with a R500m ($36.2m) investment.
